Newsflash
We're back after quite an absence in the blogosphere - not trying to hide it - it's been a dificult time in the design scene, but we're gona catch up for sure, taking the next step with the lighting design projects.
But what really happened this past months? Well...2 new designers joined our club, Alexandra and Traian (we'll have a separate post about them), who already worked a few minor projects like the book contest , or the "naive workshop" pampering with a cool exterior graphic :D;

and last but not least- the Charity Gift campain - all sorts of handmade books and naiveDesign t-shirts are up for sale on the charitygift site -all for sponsoring Sfanta Irina Association for paleative care - they are the ones who took great care of one of our friends mother so this begame quite a personal campain -I am trully thankful to all that had any infusion into this - the ones with the idea, the workshop team, the charity gift team, our clients. It's quite a nice christmass gift the fact that the whole idea worked.
So, having that said, we're waiting for the new year with great expectations and working force.
Merry Christmass and a really Happy New Year! ;))

JUDGE by my COVER

Conceptul unui obiect de design poate pleca de la un film "Fahrenheit 451" graviteaza in jurul importantei cartii intr-o lume ce tinde spre despiritualizare; o imagine simbolica in care omul in sine devine carte.
Materializarea? Un corp de iluminat introdus intr-o carcasa metalica ce adopta forma unei carti. Aceasta simpla ?carte? in timpul zilei, se transforma in mesaj luminos in intuneric.
Obiectul este gandit astfel incat sa fie asamblat chiar de catre beneficiar, facilitand transportul si livrarea. In acelasi timp pot sa existe diferite dimensiuni si mesaje dupa personalitatea fiecaruia.

Light Holder
This object was all about valorizing the "once junk/now art" painted light bulbs from this previous project
At the same time it is also a lamp (of course we had to implement lights in it :D)

Fun in the Basement
Part of the basement renovation project for "Roddia Concept" offices, this lamp concentrates the "discussions and lounge" area, maintaining the industrial reminiscence of the space it inhabits.
This project had to be as "green friendly" as possible, so we used recycled materials, economical bulbs and we recycled the old neon that was once there (yes, now you can recycle light bulbs -read more here)

Recycle Art - Green Day Vama Veche
Did u know u can recycle used lightbulbs? Well now you can! just take them to almost any hypermarket in Bucharest (all info about the campain on ziua verde site)
What can i say, the project fit like a glove, especially since i got to play with hundreds of bulbs of different sizes and types thanks to the director of Recolamp who sent the boxes to the workshop - resulting lamps to come really soon :D
Also had the opportunity to get out of the workshop and coordinate a Lightbulb Painting Contest in Vama Veche - all for raising awareness of the importance of recycling electronics +it was really fun and i got to pick the winners :P

Couples
Two pairs of a new series of naive lamps
Briefing: Challenge may differentiate one's style: He is conservative, serious and She is unconventional and open to new ideas. Or vice-versa. Every 'couple' has a sole main design idea cut in two perfect halves, brought to opposite poles: high heeled shoe together with one elegant man shoe can stay as a base for such bedside table commode lamps, out of use pills can form objects which help the antithetic message be transmitted (purse/briefcase), wigs and vintage ties are also waiting obedient to be re-conceived :)

Light Tango
The "Arogant A.O." installations are finally complete, with one very personal project for the owners themselves; very passionate about tango, they gave up their shoes for... light :)). There's quite a nice story about the limbs -they where once part of a very old furniture set (an Ludovic XIII original !!!) wich was part of their family for generations. As the set went into restoration just now, the old limps weren't needed anymore - lucky for us :D
The inspiration was definetly Fred Astaire's dance on the ceiling (a classic worth waching even nowadays). And not to forget - borrowed the idea Klaus had for using limps as abatjours.
This was installed in the waiting room, with the hope that people won't get so bored in there anymore :)

Office Installation
Probably the most pleasing collaboration yet - here is lamp no.1 from a serie of installations in the "Arogant Architecture Office" - more to come very soon :D. Everyone was incredibly receptive, it was almost like a feeling of having fans :))
Anyways, enough with that, pictures talk for themselves (hopefully).
The table over there won the "European Design Awards" last year, so it was quite a challenge to complement it.
How often do u get to see lit pieces of wall floating in the air? :))

"Street Delivery" event
3 days of sunny weather and fun. Street delivery gathered all sorts of happenings, from concerts, fairs and exhibitions. Hope you have passed through Gradina Icoanei, where MTR organized the event "How they see you" ("Cum te privesc"), a story of minorities in Bucharest.
Prety proud to say that the bulgarian stand was produced in the naiveDesign lab - a potato couch and a metalic hammock. The idea was to combine the two major occupations bulgarians have in Bucharest - growing vegetables and teaching - from AGRIculture to CULTURE.
It took some bruises and just too many kilos of vegetables, but the reactions were great :)

Ummagumma - a new chic boutique in town, a new challenge for us :)
'122, Calea Victoriei: is where you find, in a Bohemian alleyway, the fancy boutique Ummagumma – a daring concept, which invites you to stand out the standard norms of mass products. Clothing, shoes, accessories, made in small or unique pieces, new designers and fresh collections, is the main clock card of Ummagumma. A visit in there won’t disappoint you with groundless prices, and this is another argument to comeback to Ummagumma...' This is how its eloquent presentation should sound :)
Now, we'll let you decide whether this place deserves at least a visit, and therefore we present to you our 3 main lighting objects which hang daily in the boutique from 10 to 20 p.m. Those are all labeled naiveDesign :D
Whether is about the naive umbrella, the jelly hat :) or the sketches dryer, we wanted to underline through design the free spirit of Ummagumma concept. We also took care of the changing room and we painted an eye to an existing spot - we've called it the eye-setter :)

Well... we didn't stop here, as Oana (the brain behind Ummagumma concept) decided to leave a naiveDesign mark on the interior design as well. A few framed posters having as main character inverted silhouettes in different postures were hanged in the left corner of the main entrance as well as on the furnishing above the clothing hangers. Some festoons made from cotton wool and mull painted in red or wrapped in aluminium foil were also used for decoration. For the spot corner in the pay desk area, we used aluminium as main material, incorporating in it a framed grained-vintage portrait decorated with red feathers.

Curious enough? Come visit this visionary and chic place :)

and so it is...
the Earth Hour past. firstly, we would like to thank all of you who followed our petition. thus, together we managed to classify Romania on top ten :), almost 200 people having signed up (out of 1,100 from around the country).
those who still believe in such actions, had a great time celebrating this green event. we even forgot to turn ON our lights at 9 o'clock :) besides the feeling we are part of the world community, we had also experienced that lack of electricity bring people closer. we played Macao tiganesc, a card game which some of us haven't played since we were kids... and we've exchanged jokes (bancuri). What did You do? Apart of this quality time, you actually can use your individual power to 'make a difference'. No need to wait for others, just take action against this...
Of course there were a bunch of skeptics, who wanted to participate in their own way at the event :) Some of them replying us to our reminder sent a few minutes before 8 o'clock, such as: 'i turned it off, as i just left the house' or 'don't forget to unplug the fridge!' or (at 9 o'clock) 'turn on your lights!" :D
As long as the people didn't remain cold-livered, we are content. As an averse example, this article welcomes the project having a positive approach on the subject. Many thanks to Ioana Mitu for her support! :)
Well... if you feel to join us in the future, you can always sign up for the 2009 EH
Until then, you can find here some images on the 2008 event or here some of the stories of EH around the world.

Back in the Yard - a one day fair(y)

This time we decided it's time to wait our guests in the "Jelly Fish Saloon", as the rumors say :) La Scena club was packed with 'geeks' from mid day to dawn; we might say it was a successful gathering where we had the chance to meet some really interesting people with whom we exchanged post its, impressions and smiles.
Thank you guys for being there with us and for watching up in the ceiling surprised :) When we saw your brows, all the fatigue sudden disappeared.

LaScena Project - FINISHED!

Finished this Friday night, right before My Grandma's Backyard Fair; we got to rest till now so that's why we're late with this post.
There are so many things to tell about this project; first of all, we loved working on it, even though it was exhausting at some moments - especially the installing part (one week of drilling holes in the ceiling, cutting and mounting wires, tweaking, pulling stretching...:)) but now we can say we past our previous limits. This is for sure the next step for our baby firm to the lighting installations (btw, we met this wonderful electrician we're now collaborating with)
Talking about electricity, mainly because we had such a professional with us, we eventually obtained this very interactive lighting system - a ceiling that can be lit in 3 ways and intensities, starting with the classical chandelier illumination, then a dimmed light coming from 20 LEDs mounted right on the ceiling, and finally a red huge light bulb completing the whole retro-baroque atmosphere.
And this is not all!- above every table we mounted these "sconces" that leave through a very dimmed warm light.
Till now we got many interpretation about the shapes of the new objects in the "Red Saloon" that changed into the "Medusa Saloon" or "Hortensia Saloon" or "Crocodile Eggs Saloon" :)))) We obtained ourselves to give our own interpretation, since the most important thing for us was obtaining a more cozy atmosphere in there, a perfect level of warm light, the "princes tent" effect that our client wanted and, of course, a bit of craziness in the imagery; so these materials were essential for the result (if u can't tell from the picture, take a look/touch right there :) - tactile effect is usually so left out of the picture...
Too much talking, you got the picture :) We do recommend u guys to go enjoy a cup of coffee/tea in there and give us feedback (we won't delete the negative comments :D)

It takes 2 to tango, it takes ALL OF US to change

Seems the least we could do is give up a little bit on electricity and come up with a series of 12 candles and t-shirts for this event. The candles underline through their design the activities we could all take part in an hour of natural lighting (one hour of... hugging your lover, playing with your kittens, come up with new ideas, chilling, listening stories.. and others). Keeping the same concept, we conceived the graphic for a serie of pair t-shirts, having the slogan 'it takes 2 to tango, it takes all of us to change'
In order to illustrate our stories, we used different techniques:
- adding 'uncommon' materials, either from the electricity field (for highlighting the contrast of the 2 different areas) or recycling materials (clasp ins, used matches, clay, plaster, dry fruit peels)
- subtraction (lighting switch, bubbles, blended candles)
- harrowing - grilling of the x & 0 game, dragging hook
So, if you didn't came at My Grandma's Backyard on 1 of march, some of the candles and t-shirts for the campaign are still available in Pe's shop.
